What You’ll See:

L.A.’s oldest Japanese community & a vibrants arts district, too

  • Japanese Village Plaza
  • Japanese American National Museum
  • The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA
  • Japanese American Cultural and Community Center
  • Historic buildings & Buddhist Temple
  • Japanese Restaurants, markets & Gift Shops

Tour Starts: Little Tokyo/Arts District Station – on the Gold Line just one stop south of Union Station. L.A.’s City Hall and the Civic Center are all within a few blocks of the station.

Tour Ends: Little Tokyo/Arts District Station

How to Get There: If you’re coming from any distance, there are 3 options:

  • By Rail: Take Metrorail! The tour starts at the Little Tokyo/Arts District Station on the Gold Line. The Gold Line intersects with Union Station, which also intersects with the Red and Purple Lines, Metrolink and Amtrak. Metrorail, Metrolink, and Amtrak offer maps, fares, trip planner and station location information.
  • By Bus: Visit the Metro site for bus transit maps, fares, trip planner and stops nearest you.
  • By Car: Street parking is available in Little Tokyo but watch the restrictions and watch the time limits. Garages are available and some validate with participating shops and restaurants.

Tour Length: This is a relatively short walking tour; 2 hours should easily do it. But be sure to allow extra time for lunch.

Optional Side Trips: There are no Side Trips offered on this Tour.

How Much Walking? About 1 mile total – all of it over flat terrain. The tour is wheelchair accessible.

Tour Cost: Once you’re downtown, nothing. Admission to museums is extra.

When to Go: The best time to begin the tour is mid- or late-morning between 10 am – 11 am so you can include a snack, lunch or dinner in your tour. Weekdays are a little busier and for that reason, maybe a little more fun. Check the Japanese American Cultural & Com munity Center website for special events, exhibits and parades.

The biggest event is the annual Nisei Week Japanese Festival. Click here for the official event site .
